The 5 Witches Travel - October Holidays

Witches have been loved, feared, respected and destroyed for thousands of years. Each culture thinks of them differently and each person has a different opinion of what a witch is and how they should be treated. In the spirit of Halloween, here are 5 types of witch vacations and destinations that you can take and discover some new history about one of the most loved, feared and well known Halloween icons. Grab your broomstick, your passport and get ready to discover 5 types of witches and where you can find them.

The endangered witch.

Salem Massachusetts may have recovered year round from their reputation of murdering innocent people, but when October comes, people constantly think of one thing. The Salem Witch Trials. The Salem Witch trials were a rough time for men and women. If you didn’t look perfect, thought a different way or even had an opinion that wasn’t popular, you could be dunked under water, burned at the steak and tried as a witch. Many people were murdered as witches during these horrible times, and you can visit Salem and take witch tours to discover how misunderstood people were back then and learn some of the gruesome ways that people would test to see if someone was a witch.

Lady luck and the kitchen witch go to Spain.

If you visit Spain, a typically Catholic country, you’ll discover something very unusual. Witches are considered a symbol of luck, especially if you have one in your kitchen. When I was in college I studied abroad in Madrid and wondered why many of the shops carried witches. My host family explained to me that having a witch in your kitchen was a sign of luck and not something to be feared or hated. After learning more about kitchen witches, I bought one for each person in my family as a gift. When I went back to visit a year later, I made sure to stop at a local shop and pick up a new kitchen witch for my host family as well as a couple of the people I had met during my study abroad.

The religious, history witch heads to the UK.

One of the most famous and historic sites of witches and the supernatural is Stonehedge. No one knows how or why it was built, but everyone has their own superstitions and theories on why it exists. If you are a practicing Wiccan and you are visiting Stonehedge, you are able to go to the historical society ahead of time and get access to the ancient ruins for a religious visit before tourists come. You do have to show up early in the morning, and when Stonehedge opens to the public you have to leave, but during that time you will be able to walk around the stones, place crystals and artifacts or religious items on them and also be able to experience them without tons of people around.

The theatrical witch loves Manhattan.

There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like….well New York City if you want to see witches. At the Gershwin Theatre you can see two of the most famous witches lives appear before you at the show Wicked. Wicked is the story of the two witches of Oz, how they met and why the Wicked Witch of the West isn’t really that wicked. This show is perfect for everyone from families to couples, kids and adults. You’ll get to watch some of your favorite characters come to life and show you an entirely new side of the Land of Oz.

The helpful witch loves Disney.

If you’re looking for a helpful witch, what better place than Orlando FL. Not only can you find fairy godmothers, helpful witches, fairies and everything in between, but your kids can fall in love with some of the characters that both of you grew up with. Orlando is the one place on earth where you can ride in a cart and experience what it is like to be in a movie with your favorite witches, not to mention visit a haunted house where you get to meet evil, good and everything in between. Theme park witches in Orlando Florida will help you have an amazing vacation as well as create long lasting happy memories for you and your family. If you go in October you can even visit some haunted houses where the witches not only come to life, but your kids get to meet them in person.

Witches are celebrated, feared and loved in different ways around the world. Depending on where you live and what you want, you can take a vacation and get to meet real witches, find out about their history and also enjoy learning about how they came to get their names.
